Hectic day

Before you go on reading, please have a quick read here as the subject that I will be referring to is the same person.

Now that you have got an idea about that person, let me tell you what happened today at work. Some of us at work were selected to attend an 'Exchange Event'. Which basically means dividing the audience into random groups, have a brainstorming session with the 'big fishes' of the company.

So anyway, towards the end we were exchanging ideas with top management after about 1.5 hours most of us were spent . The last question that the coordinator asked all of us was ' Is there any more negative side of the company that you wish to improve?'

Lo and behold , that woman (from my previous post) raised her hand up. Guess what she said? I'll try to summarise it the best that I can - 'I have been working here since 1997 and my two kids are working here as well. During the first couple of years I was thinking of sending in my resignation but now I can't never imagine leaving' (Good gosh , help!). Relevance? As she was talking, I did a quick scan around the room and I caught few people with the same expression that I had i.e WTF?!Okay, maybe she is trying to say that there is nothing wrong with the company. But HELLO weren't we just talking about improvements as a group earlier in the session? What company that has improved doesn't need more improving or polishing up? Weren't we just talking about the computer system, the quote databases, empowerment issues, communication (verbal and non verbal) improvements, brand values and many more? If there isn't a problem why even speak?

Maybe I am just being bias as she gave me a hard time during my second presentation. However , seriously folks the beginning of her 'idea' has no relevance at all.
Plus I wasn't the only one with the funny looks. LOL I am a meanie.

Work has indeed been hectic these past few days, I think I'm suffering from dehydration as sometimes I even forget to drink water (violin players please). They have given me a new task to do (again) on Monday and it is such a huge task for a newbie like me. I'm honoured of course to be given the responsibility but with study time (4 hours per week) and processing internal department post which is about +/-150 pcs per day. I am feeling knackered!

A little background , I am currently in Life Claims dept and whatever post we received from our post room - we have to process each one, update the system, get the files from the filing cabinets ( yup these are really old prehistoric policies - all are closed book business. The other side of the company deals with new business so everything is scanned and paperless.) ,set the case up, assigned the work to people, search for missing files usually ending up at Complaints or Finance dept, prepare QC checklist and getting those files ready as well. On top of that I have to print off the 1001 PIFs request. Not only I am responsible for the surrender paperwork but also the maturities - and for surrender we have a different software to use and another software for maturities.

I also have to do miscellaneous checking on maturities claim forms, payments for maturities, preparing surrender figures, NFI, lapsed cases and gone away cases.

My study time is 2-4pm every Tuesday and Thursday, this is counted as company time and not private time. So come Tuesday and Thursday, you can't even see me seated at my place for more than 10 minutes. As I am trying to squeeze in a 7-hour worth of work into 5 hours. I know that I can always catch up with my work the next day, but I hate piling up my work. My boss is not ruthless (ironically the first part of that word is her name, Ruth) she is very understanding.

Today though by some miracle , was a success at work, as I managed to clear my desk and nothing was outstanding. Hurrah!
