Coffee drinking

Pic courtesy of scienceblogs
I just love drinking coffee. For me that's the way to really wake me up in the morning. Sure some may say, that , that is just a force of habit. A mug of coffee in the morning , doesn't really wake me up in fact after a few hours I would be sleepy again.LOL!

So here we go. What is it with coffee? I mean I know out there , some tea drinkers would disagree with me on how great coffee drinking is. I am not even going to try to make this entry all scientific by going into the components that has made coffee and tea so addictive. Being a coffee drinker, I do not have cups of tea or tend to buy tea bags except for green tea though. However, I do not have green tea religiously as I do with coffee.

Once at work, I will have one more cup of coffee at about 10am and another one (maybe) at about 2pm. Though my afternoon cup of coffee session is not set in stone. I can say that at most I can go on without 3 days without having a cup of coffee , once that 3 days is up I will feel like I've lost the will to live. :)

Below are the pros and cons of coffee drinking. Again I'm not going into details, as there are a vast amount of sites online that you can read more about it which are better as it is from certified experts. Me? I'm just a coffee lover :)

EC credits

I know this will sound lame, but Im quite excited to see that I have the EC credits that is the same figure as my birth year. Now without giving my birth year away, compare to some veteren EC droppers, I know it is not a lot. Oh gawd, I sound like such a loser getting a (tiny) bit excited about EC credits. *blegh*

By the way, THANK YOU to all my EC advertisers and droppers so far! Thank you coming by to my humble blog.

Break

Off late, my hubby has been doing much of the cooking. Hey Im not complaining, if anything I welcome the break from the kitchen. Especially nowadays when work has been really hectic. Coming home , dreary and spent, seeing dinner being prepared is a delighful sight.

I thank my blessings that my hubby is a wonderful cook. In some ways he is actually more domesticated than me when it comes to cooking and gardening but NOT in cleaning up. Which works well as Iam a bit OCD with cleaning and cooking (i.e cleaning up after cooking) ,and I have to make sure everything is washed and put away properly before I can rest with a clear conscience.

Today he prepared roast beef and all I had to do was clear up. Yay. Lets hope tomorrow he will do some more cooking!

Hanging flower basket

A few weeks ago, I planted this . Yeah been too preoccupied (i.e laziness) to upload the picture then. The weather is changing as we speak but hopefully my flowers will blossom for a few more months before the winter season.

Jet blast

In my previous post titled Hectic Day, I mentioned that I attended an 'Exchange event', one of the things that the speaker spoke about was his family holiday to Sint Maarten.

To be honest, I have never travelled to the other side of the globe as my travelling is only limited on this side of the globe (UK, Europe Continent, Asia Continent etc). So I never heard about this tiny island or about Princess Juliana International airport or about Maho beach. (Shameful I know , in my defense we are suppose to learn new things everyday :) I was intrigued and found some fantastic facts, videos, pictures and information about it. Check it out on Youtube or at Veoh.

Hectic day

Before you go on reading, please have a quick read here as the subject that I will be referring to is the same person.

Now that you have got an idea about that person, let me tell you what happened today at work. Some of us at work were selected to attend an 'Exchange Event'. Which basically means dividing the audience into random groups, have a brainstorming session with the 'big fishes' of the company.

So anyway, towards the end we were exchanging ideas with top management after about 1.5 hours most of us were spent . The last question that the coordinator asked all of us was ' Is there any more negative side of the company that you wish to improve?'

Lo and behold , that woman (from my previous post) raised her hand up. Guess what she said? I'll try to summarise it the best that I can - 'I have been working here since 1997 and my two kids are working here as well. During the first couple of years I was thinking of sending in my resignation but now I can't never imagine leaving' (Good gosh , help!). Relevance? As she was talking, I did a quick scan around the room and I caught few people with the same expression that I had i.e WTF?!Okay, maybe she is trying to say that there is nothing wrong with the company. But HELLO weren't we just talking about improvements as a group earlier in the session? What company that has improved doesn't need more improving or polishing up? Weren't we just talking about the computer system, the quote databases, empowerment issues, communication (verbal and non verbal) improvements, brand values and many more? If there isn't a problem why even speak?

Maybe I am just being bias as she gave me a hard time during my second presentation. However , seriously folks the beginning of her 'idea' has no relevance at all.
Plus I wasn't the only one with the funny looks. LOL I am a meanie.

Work has indeed been hectic these past few days, I think I'm suffering from dehydration as sometimes I even forget to drink water (violin players please). They have given me a new task to do (again) on Monday and it is such a huge task for a newbie like me. I'm honoured of course to be given the responsibility but with study time (4 hours per week) and processing internal department post which is about +/-150 pcs per day. I am feeling knackered!

A little background , I am currently in Life Claims dept and whatever post we received from our post room - we have to process each one, update the system, get the files from the filing cabinets ( yup these are really old prehistoric policies - all are closed book business. The other side of the company deals with new business so everything is scanned and paperless.) ,set the case up, assigned the work to people, search for missing files usually ending up at Complaints or Finance dept, prepare QC checklist and getting those files ready as well. On top of that I have to print off the 1001 PIFs request. Not only I am responsible for the surrender paperwork but also the maturities - and for surrender we have a different software to use and another software for maturities.

I also have to do miscellaneous checking on maturities claim forms, payments for maturities, preparing surrender figures, NFI, lapsed cases and gone away cases.

My study time is 2-4pm every Tuesday and Thursday, this is counted as company time and not private time. So come Tuesday and Thursday, you can't even see me seated at my place for more than 10 minutes. As I am trying to squeeze in a 7-hour worth of work into 5 hours. I know that I can always catch up with my work the next day, but I hate piling up my work. My boss is not ruthless (ironically the first part of that word is her name, Ruth) she is very understanding.

Today though by some miracle , was a success at work, as I managed to clear my desk and nothing was outstanding. Hurrah!
